Come on Target…You’re Killin’ Me Here…Get it Together!!!

A while back, I told you about the register glitch at Target where the register was automatically adjusting coupons down to the price of the item, but when using a coupon for multiple items ($1/2, $2/2, $1/4, etc) the coupon is adjusting down for just one item! So you need to pay close attention to the register when your coupons are scanned!  This issue has yet to be resolved and now there is a whole NEW issue and this one really upsets me!

This new problem has to do with Gift Card deals and manufacturer coupons.  Kerry over at Totally Target explains the whole mess for you, but here’s the problem in a nutshell.

When there is a Target Gift Card deal, the register will automatically deduct twice the value of the gift card offer and consider it a manufacturer coupon.  This is an “invisible” deduction that impacts the way you can use manufacturer coupons on gift card deals.  For instance, the current Glade Deal…

Buy five Glade Products and get a $5 Target Gift Card.  Here’s how Target is working the math:
Buy 5 Glade Products ($2.99 each = 14.95)
MINUS $10 invisible deduction at the register (twice the value of the $5 Target Gift Card)
=$4.95 this is the amount you can apply manufacturer coupons against.  So if you were going to deduct $5 or more worth of manufacturer coupons, it won’t work, the register will only let you deduct $4.95.

So now you can see why this issue has me upset!

There is some good-ish news…if you have other items in your transaction that the $10 invisible credit can be applied against you should not have problems.  So, if you plan on doing gift card deals at Target you need to add extra items to your transaction to cover this.

For many of you this may not be a big deal since you may just need to pick up extra item(s) to cover the difference, but for some us that run into Target just to get the Gift Card Deal…this issue can put a kink in your plans, so you will need to plan accordingly and WATCH that register VERY CLOSELY!!

I’m not sure why Target is making things so difficult for their customers.  I think they need to resolve their register issues, (I don’t appreciate being tricked at the register) otherwise they may begin to lose business!

(Thanks Kerry)

HAVING PROBLEMS USING COUPONS AT A STORE???

I seem to get a lot of emails from readers stating that a cashier or manager won’t let them use certain coupons at various stores, what do you do??

Well, here’s the best advice I can give you!!  Make sure you read, understand, print and keep a copy of your stores coupon policy with your coupons!  This way if you are having a problem, you can show them their coupon policy!!!

TARGET - Corporate Coupon Policy

WALMART – Corporate Coupon Policy

SHOP ‘N SAVE - Internet Printable Coupon Acceptance Policy

DIERBERGS - Double Coupon Policy and Internet Printable Coupon Policy

DOLLAR GENERAL -  Corporate Coupon Policy
.
FAMILY DOLLAR - Coupon Policy

THE FOLLOWING STORES DON’T HAVE A PUBLISHED COUPON POLICY, (at least that I have been able to find), so put these phone numbers in your cell phone, for quick easy access!  I find that if I have a problem, it’s best to call the corporate office right from the store, so that the issue can be resolved before I leave.  Also, this helps when the corporate office may need to clarify their coupon policy directly to the cashier or manager.

WALGREENS:  1-800-WALGREENS

One Walgreens and one manufacturer coupon can be used for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits such use.  Walgreens Ad Coupons, Instant Value Coupons (IVC), and a manufacturer’s coupon can be used towards the purchase of any one item.

Walgreens does not provide cash back if a coupon is presented for morethan the purchase value of the item (e.g., the customer is using the coupon to purchase a clearance item). If the retail of the item is less than the face value of the coupon: the coupon value shall be the retail value if the state requires taxes to be paid on that item, the coupon value shall be the retail value plus taxes if the state does not require taxes to be paid on the item.

Managers have the right to limit the quantities of all advertised items.

CVS:  1-800-SHOP-CVS
Email response regarding coupon policy
CVS allows 1 CVS coupon and 1 manufacturer coupon per item. In a situation where there is a BOGO sale and the customer has BOGO coupons, they would be accepted and the customer would only pay sales tax if applicable. We do not give cash for coupons, so if the coupon had a higher dollar off value than the price of the product, the amount of the coupon would be adjusted.

CVS/pharmacy does accept manufacturer’s coupons that have been obtained from an approved Web site sponsored by the manufacturer. The coupon should be complete and contain a bar code that can be scanned at the register.

RITE AID:  1-800-RITEAID
Email Reponse regarding coupon policy
One internet coupon can be used per item; however, there is a $5.00 limit on each internet coupon. Similar to manufacturer’s coupons, only one internet coupon is accepted for each item, unless coupled with a manufacturer’s or valuable coupon found in a Rite Aid circular.

K MART: 1-866-KMART-4U

To find the coupon policy for a store not listed, check your store’s website first to see if they post a policy.  If they don’t post their policy, it’s best to contact the store’s customer service area to clarify the policy and keep the number handy, just in case you need it down the road!

I hope this helps!!!

Here is a letter that you may want to print out and keep with your Target Coupon Envelope.
This letter cleary states Target Coupon Policy.

Thanks for asking us about using coupons at Target.

Coupons are a great way to save even more when shopping with us, and it’s easy to use them at our stores. Because of the variety of coupons available to our guests, we do have some guidelines for how coupons can be redeemed at Target. When accepting coupons, we use the following guidelines:

We accept two kinds of coupons:
Target-issued and manufacturer-issued.
We’ll accept one Target coupon and one manufacturer coupon for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits it.

We can’t give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item; in this case, we’re able to adjust the value of the coupon to equal the price of the item.

We can’t accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores. All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier while you’re checking out.

For questions about using a specific coupon, we encourage you to stop by Guest Service and ask to speak with the Guest Service Team Leader. They’ll do their best to help while you’re in the store.

If you still have questions after speaking with them, please call our Guest Relations team at (800) 440-0680. Either way, we’re here to help!

We appreciate the opportunity to share this information with you.
